About fractional CMOs
Fractional CMOHow is a fractional CMO different from a full-time CMO?
A fractional CMO does the same job, setting strategy, owning the plan and budget, and leading the team, on a part-time basis. You get executive judgment without the salary, benefits, equity, and months-long search of a full-time hire, and you can scale the engagement up or down as the business changes.
What types of companies benefit most?
Growing B2B and ecommerce companies with real revenue and a marketing function that hasn't kept up. It fits especially well when a founder is still running marketing, when there's a team but no senior leader, or when the company is going through a launch, expansion, or leadership change.
How do you make sure the work lines up with our business goals?
Every engagement starts with Detect: we audit the business, talk to your leadership, sales team, and customers, and agree on revenue-linked KPIs before any campaign launches. The plan is built from those targets, and we report against them monthly.
What does a fractional CMO handle day to day?
Strategy and planning, positioning and messaging, budget allocation, team and agency leadership, sales alignment, and reporting. With Deep Quiver, execution is available too: Full-Service Execution adds hands-on campaign, content, and HubSpot work under the same leadership.
How do you measure success?
Against the KPIs we set together in the first 30 days, typically qualified leads, pipeline, conversion rates, and customer acquisition cost. You'll see them in a monthly report, and we reallocate budget quarterly based on what's working.
Working with Deep Quiver
How is Deep Quiver different from a marketing agency?
An agency executes against a brief you write. We write the brief. As your fractional CMO, we set strategy, own the plan and budget, and direct the agencies and vendors you already have. When you need hands, Full-Service Execution adds them under the same leadership, so you get one accountable leader instead of a stack of vendors.
Can we combine services?
Yes, and most clients do. A common path is the 30-Day Diagnostic, then a fractional CMO retainer, with Growth Marketing or a website build added as the plan calls for it. Everything runs under one plan and one set of KPIs, so services add up instead of competing.
Who will we actually work with?
Your engagement is led by Jon Mackin, our founder and fractional CMO, who brings 20+ years of Fortune 500 marketing leadership. Execution is handled by contract specialists he brings in for the channels your plan needs, managed against that same plan.
Can you work with our existing agency?
Yes. We often lead the agencies and freelancers a client already has. We set the priorities and the brief, hold vendors to the KPIs, and recommend changes only when the work isn't moving the numbers.
How quickly will we see results?
Most clients see early wins in the first 30 to 60 days, usually from fixing conversion leaks, sharpening messaging, and cleaning up tracking. Pipeline and revenue impact builds over two to three quarters. We agree on the KPIs before we start and report against them every month.
Pricing and contracts
What does a fractional CMO cost compared to a full-time hire?
A full-time CMO typically costs well into six figures before benefits, equity, and a months-long search. Our engagements run $7,500 to $15,000 per month depending on tier and scope, with no minimum term. You get the same caliber of leadership, sized to what the business needs today.
Do you require long-term contracts?
No lock-ins and no minimum term on any service. Strategy does need time to show results, so we plan in quarters and report monthly, but you are free to stop. Project work, like a website or the Diagnostic, is scoped and priced up front.
How is this different from Digital Strategy?
The Diagnostic tells you where marketing stands across the whole business, and what to fix first. Digital Strategy builds the plan for one launch, market, or segment. Both are about $5,000; the Diagnostic is the one to start with when you are not sure where the problem is.
Services
How is this different from the 30-Day Diagnostic?
Digital Strategy builds the plan for one launch, market, or segment. The Diagnostic tells you where marketing stands across the whole business and what to fix first. Both are about $5,000; start with the Diagnostic if you are not sure where the problem is, and with Digital Strategy if you already know what you are launching.
How is growth marketing different from traditional marketing?
Traditional marketing often optimizes for reach and awareness. Growth marketing optimizes for actions you can measure: leads, pipeline, and sales. It runs on fast tests across channels, keeps what works, and moves budget away from what doesn't.
What's the difference between marketing consulting and a fractional CMO?
In both, we own the plan. Consulting is the lighter option: a set block of senior hours each month, with your team doing the work. A fractional CMO engagement adds ongoing leadership at the Essentials, Growth Track, or Embedded Executive level. When you want us to do the work too, Full-Service Execution adds the hands under the same leadership.
Which platforms do you build on?
We build primarily on HubSpot CMS and Shopify, and we also build on Wix and as custom HTML sites. We recommend a platform based on how your team will update the site and how it connects to your CRM, not on what's easiest for us.
Isn't this just an agency?
No. An agency executes against a brief you write and reports on deliverables. Here, a fractional CMO writes the brief, owns the plan and the numbers, and directs the execution. You get one accountable leader instead of a vendor to manage.
Everything you need.
Nothing you don't.
Spend 30 minutes with a CMO. You'll leave with a clear read on what's working, what isn't, and what we'd do first, whether or not we work together.
